Sex Doll Buyer’s Guide: Customising Your Zelex Silicone Doll

This is a relatively simple choice, with only three skintones to choose from. 

The Tan and Fair skintones are the most popular, although all three are realistic human skintones. A doll with the White skintone is more akin to a European skintone from very cold, Northern or Arctic regions. 

Fair is a pale, general European skintone, whereas Tan would suit a range of ethnicities. To get a good idea of what the various skintones look like on a full doll, taking note of the advertised skintone of various Product Pages will give you an idea.

Hard Silicone is very hard, almost mannequin like (although the surface of the silicone skin is still soft), similar in feeling to human knuckles (unclenched). This makes it very durable, but not very pliable. The bony areas, such as the nose and forehead, are more realistic/human feeling on a doll with a hard silicone head.

Soft Silicone heads have a more pleasant, soft feeling to them, especially the lips, and are more suited for people who want soft silicone lips on their doll. While cheeks and lips will feel softer, so will normally hard areas, such as the forehead.

While implanted hair, eyelashes and eyebrows are selectable for dolls with soft silicone heads, more care must be taken with them, as soft silicone doesn’t “anchor” the hairs as firmly into the surface as hard silicone does.

Note that Soft Silicone heads are not the same as Movable Jaw heads. If you are looking for a head with a movable jaw, consult the product descriptions of your preferred doll, to see what kind of head is pictured.

While not all heads made from soft silicone have movable jaws, all heads with a movable jaw are made from soft silicone.

Lip colour is part of the standard makeup options for dolls, and allows you to deviate from the makeup shown on the doll images.

The colour is permanently applied to the surface of the doll and cannot be changed or altered, but like any painted surface, it can be worn off through very harsh or rough treatment, so care and common sense are required to maintain the integrity of the makeup.

Freckles are a free optional extra, in addition to the normal skintone/makeup, and can be applied with increasing density and distribution.

The default option is no freckles.

There are currently eleven eye colour choices in this section. The Zelex eyeballs are extremely realistic, and come with white eyeballs (without capillaries) by default.

Care must be taken to choose your preferred eye colour, as they are difficult, and sometimes hazardous, to change on a silicone doll head, especially if the head is made of hard silicone.

There are two types of eyelashes – glued and implanted. There is no additional charge for implanted eyelashes.

Implanted eyelashes can have a more natural, realistic look to them, while glued eyelashes may be removed and replaced by the user, should they wish to change the look of their doll at a later date.

You have the choice of having more natural/realistic implanted eyebrows, or painted on eyebrows. With soft silicone heads being able to now accept implanted eyebrows, we recommend this option. 

You may choose from three different coloured eyebrows – applicable for both implanted and painted eyebrows.

Implanted hair can be selected for heads made of both hard and soft silicone, however extra care must be taken with heads made of soft silicone, as the hair won’t be anchored as firmly.

Implanted hair is a good choice for those who want a high level of naturalism for their doll’s hairline – especially if the hairstyle chosen does not have a fringe, with the hair styled or pulled back, leaving the hairline exposed. 

The upsides of this natural appearance may be offset by the inability to change a doll’s hairstyle, or to remedy the hair becoming dry at the ends or even tangled. Some hair loss may also occur with time, with the hair not being to be replaced.

Implanted hair does attract an extra cost, which is something else to consider.

Wigs are a good choice for people who want to easily swap out their doll’s hair with minimum fuss. There is a huge variety of wigs available of varying price points and quality, and of course, additional Zelex wigs can be ordered.

The images from this section are all photographs of wigs, but these hair styles and colours are also applicable to orders for dolls with implanted hair.

Additionally, you may request a specific hair style and colour from an image of a Zelex doll you’ve seen, where the wig or hairstyle is not included in the options. It is often possible for us to supply a non listed wig or hairstyle, even if it’s not pictured.

The EVO skeleton provided advanced movement for Zelex silicone dolls for a long time, and is still the free default option for orders. This skeleton includes a lot of movement, including articulated fingers, shrugging shoulders and allows for a wide variety of poses.

The EXP skeleton takes the range of movement even further, but attracts an upcharge.

Joint tightness is something that has been recently introduced by Zelex as an option.

This is something that has been available from other brands, due to users sometimes wanting a doll for bed use, whose joints are less rigid. The idea is that a doll with looser joints is more natural feeling when reclining.

The default option of Standard is the classic Zelex skeleton – This allows a doll to stand, sit and pose without the limbs dropping or drooping. For most uses, especially where a doll is kept standing for any length of time, the Standard option should be selected. 

Only select one of the two loose options if you aren’t going to have a doll standing or sitting.

The various degrees of freckles are a free addition to the standard default realistic body painting that is included with every Zelex silicone doll. 

If you don’t wish to have any freckles on your doll, then you may keep the default option. 

Freckles are the same as the other types of permanent body paint. 

Like freckles, tan lines are available as an option in addition to the default realistic body painting.

Tan lines do attract an upcharge, due to the nature of the process involved in creating them. The tan lines are designed to mimic a woman who has been tanning while wearing various types of bikinis.

The default option is the standard, free no tan lines option.

There is a wide variety of fingernail colours to choose from for your Zelex silicone doll. 

The nails are intended to be permanent, however further down the line, they can be removed and replaced, with care, with third party nails, should you choose to carry out this procedure.

The main difference between these two options is the balance between tactile sensation and durability.

Historically, hands have been some of the most vulnerable parts of every sex doll, attracting damage due to various circumstances – whether they’re stationery, being used, carried or moved in any way.

The Hard Hands option is useful for those concerned about damaging finger tips – especially with finger bones poking through fragile soft silicone.

For those who are willing and able to take great care of their doll’s vulnerable fingertips, the Soft Hands option is available, enabling a nicer feel, with the hands being softer and more naturalistic.

Either option allows for full range of motion of the finger joints.

The colour and texture of nipples, and/or areolae, are some of the most difficult aspects of human appearance to replicate in a doll.

It’s best to ignore the colour descriptors on this section, and focus on the image itself of the nipples when making a choice.

Zelex has made a good approximation of the gradation of colour in the nipple/areolae area, with five natural looking colour schemes to choose from.

Pubic hair is probably one of the most difficult, if not impossible, physical aspects of a woman’s body to accurately replicate.

The pubic hair options available from Zelex are all implanted, and reflect three more common shapes and styles.

Due to the difficulty of replicating accurate pubic hair, and even implanted pubic hair being at best a vague approximation of it, it’s most advisable to keep this area bare by default.

There are a number of options with the Vagina Type Menu, ranging from Fixed Vagina to the various Inspiration Series removable vaginas with attached labias.

Many sex doll vendors seem to recommend fixed vaginas. We are quite against the concept of the fixed vagina for a doll, so much so that there is an article here about it.

One drawback of the standard insert is that you can still feel the labia upon penetration, and the labia are made from the same silicone as the rest of the doll. 

For those who want a softer option – one that could arguably have a slight edge on a naturalistic look – there is the Inspiration Removable Vagina series, which include the labia moulded as part of their design. This allows for the labia to be as soft as the insert, leading to a more pleasant feeling during use, and it also allows the choice between different styles of labia. 

Just as the doll’s vaginal passage can be moulded according to the user’s wishes, the anal passage is also able to be customised in the same three ways – length, tightness and with various textures.

Note that unlike the vagina, all anal passages on Zelex silicone dolls are fixed, so will have the same firmness as the rest of the doll.

There are three different types of feet to choose from, with the following attributes:

• Standing Feet – Bolts: The classic style of standing feet, with three points of contact with the floor/ground to distribute the weight of the doll across an internal metal foot plate. Most sex dolls that can stand have this kind of foot, and the bolts are slightly adjustable by screwing or unscrewing them from the foot plate. The bolts allow there to be a few millimetres clearance from the floor. When standing, all three bolts have to be making firm contact with the floor, to ensure that the weight of the doll is evenly distributed across all three bolts/the foot plate.
• Non Standing Feet: Only for those who wish to keep their dolls lying or sitting permanently, and want slightly softer feet than the standing non bolt feet. Customers who plan to have their doll standing for any length of time at all are advised to only order a doll with standing feet.
• Standing Feet – No Bolts: This is the most recent style of foot, allowing a doll to stand with hardened feet, without the use of foot bolts. Some users prefer this style of foot, as it allows the doll to stand, without detracting from the foot’s aesthetic qualities with the presence of foot bolts. Care should be taken with this kind of feet to ensure that the doll is wearing soft, supportive socks and shoes when standing.

Any doll with standing feet should still be supported while standing, whether she is braced against a chair, wall or other third form of support, to maintain balance and stability.
